Understanding a Variable Speed Drive

While you are here searching for variable speed drives, you would want to know what a variable speed drive is. Let us brief you about it here.

The most basic function of a variable speed drive is to control the flow of energy from the mains of the process.

Variable speed drives sit between the electrical supply and the motor. The power from the electrical supply goes into the drive and then the drive regulates the power that is again fed to the motor.

Inside of the variable speed drive, there is a device called rectifier. The device is responsible to convert the incoming AC power to DC power.

The DC power is fed into the capacitators inside the drive. It is done to smooth out the electrical waveform which provides the clean power supply for the next step.

Power then flows from the capacitators to the inverter, that further changes the DC power to the output AC power that goes to the monitor.

It is a crucial step allowing the drive to adjust the frequency and the voltage that fed into the motor-based on your current process demands.

This means that you can run your AC motors at the speed on your demand. That is why you can save large amounts of money using the AC drives.

Besides saving energy, the variable speed drives help you reduce maintenance costs as well. If you are looking for one, come to us.
